Everyone is Familiar with coconut oil. Many of you might be using coconut oil for various purposes like in frying food, baking recipes or replacing butter. Some of you might be using it on face and hair as well.
Why we use coconut oil without knowing what it can do to your hair? We will tell you can enjoy the benefits of coconut oil for hair growth.
One reason can be because we are using it for generations and sharing wisdom and never question about it. In my childhood, my mother uses to massage my scalp using coconut oil but I never questioned why coconut oil. I thought that coconut oil is good for hair. But we should know that what is coconut oil? What it contains? And why it is good for hair growth? And in how many ways you can use coconut oil?

Coconut oil is also known as copra oil. It is extracted from the kernel of grown coconut harvested from the coconut palm tree and it is an edible oil. Coconut oil can last up to 6 months as it contains saturated fat.
Coconut Oil Components
Daly diet containing fat is essential for our body as it helps your body to absorb vitamins A, D, E and K and reduce harmful LDL cholesterol.
Coconut oil contains 99% fat. As per 100g value, it has 82.5g of saturated fat, 6.3 g of monounsaturated fat and 1.7 g of polyunsaturated fat. It supplies 890 kcal which can give a boost of energy. Coconut oil has saturated fat which contains lauric, myristic, palmitic and caprylic acid. As mentioned earlier, Lauric acid (fatty acid) can help your body to absorb vitamins like A, D, E and K.
Can Coconut oil help the Hair growth?
A study conducted by Rele and Mohile in 2003 has shown that when applied before wash and after wash, coconut oil can help reduce protein loss from hair compared to mineral and sunflower oil. Not only this, there are many studies which show effects of coconut oil on hair all proven to contribute to hair growth (1).

Best Ways to Use Coconut Oil for Hair Growth
There are many ways you can use coconut oil, it can be used with other remedies for best hair growth.
Use Coconut oil daily
Coconut oil helps boost hair growth. Many researchers have shown the daily message on the scalp with coconut oil can significantly help in hair growth.
It is very easy to use coconut oil on a daily bases.
What you need is only 2-3 tbs of coconut oil.
Step 1: Make coconut oil warm using gas stove or microwave.
Step 2: Use the warm oil on your scalp and message. Make sure it reaches the hair follicle.
Step 3: After 3-4 hours (can be applied overnight) watch your hair with shampoo
Coconut and Olive oil
Olive oil is also used for hair growth. It is a great source of antioxidants which helps your scalp and skin to stay healthy. So, mixing it with coconut oil can be very beneficial and it can do way more than hair growth. It can help hair to grow faster and make your hair thicker.
To use it you need 2 tbs of coconut oil, 2 tbs of olive oil and towel and hot water.
Step 1: You can start with mixing coconut and olive oil.
Step 2: Heat the mixture of oil for a few seconds. Make sure it’s warm not overheated.
Step 3: The message your scalp with the mixture for 3-4 minutes and make sure it reaches to every corner.
Step 4: Take the towel and dip it in hot water and wring out the water. Then cover that towel on your head.
Step 5: Leave it for 2-3 hours then wash your hair with shampoo.
Coconut Oil and Honey
Dry hair can affect the growth and it can make hair thin as well which makes it easy to lose hair. Sometimes scalp does not make enough oil to keep it moisturized. Moisturized hair follies promote hair growth. And can play important role in keeping the scalp moisture.
What you need is 2-3 tbs of Honey and the same amount of coconut oil.
Wide tooth comb and shower cap (optional)
Step 1: First make your tangled hair straight or you can prewash your hair.
Step 2: Mix coconut oil with honey properly in a bowl.
Step 3: then apply or coat your hair with the mixture.
Step 4: spread that mixture properly on your scalp using a comb.
Step 5: cover or put a shower cap on your head and wait for 40-60 minutes.
Step 6: Wash your hair with shampoo.
Coconut oil and Neem
Everyone at some point suffers from dandruff. It can cause hair hall and hinder hair growth. Neem can help us with dandruff as it has anti-bacterial properties. Together they are the best choice to get rid of dandruff and for hair conditioning which will promote healthy hair growth. Neem can help with the blood circulation in the scalp which boosts hair growth.
You need ½ cup of coconut oil, Neem leaves (to create neem paste)
Step 1: First take Neem leaves (According to 2-3 tbs of neem paste) and blend it in mixtures and you can add 2-3 drop of water if leaves are dry.
Step 2: after mixing you will get a neem paste and we need 2-3 tbs of that paste as mentioned before.
Step 3: add neem paste in coconut oil and stir it for until oil looks dark green
Step 4: filter out the neem from oil. And use that oil on your scalp and message.
Step 5: then leave it for 1-2 hours then wash it with shampoo.
Note: People who have moisturized scalp should use coconut oil after hair wash as it can make your scalp limp and greasy. I will not recommend you to use lemon with coconut oil as lemon is acidic in nature. And many studies have shown that lemon applied on hair for a long time can cause thin hair which leads to hair loss.
